Union Gospel Mission Video

The Union Gospel Mission is extending its services to the poor and homeless into Kootenai County, Idaho. Construction for the new Women and Chidlren's Rescue and Recovery Shelter in Coeur d'Alene is well underway at 196 W. Haycraft Ave. Kootenai County does not currently have a long-term residential recovery center for women and children. The need for such a center is clear from the statistics below:
  • The number of homeless individuals living in northern Idaho has increased by 54% from 2009 to 2010.
  • 644 homeless individuals were counted on a single night in January 2010.
  • 27% of these individuals were living in shelters; 73% were without shelter.
  • 43% were female.
  • 21% were under 18.
  • From 2007 to 2010, statistics showed an 89% increase in the total number of homeless individuals and a 173% increase in the number of those individuals who were unsheltered.

The shelter is scheduled to open in the summer of 2012. Learn more by visiting  http://www.ugmspokane.org/kootenai/.

Community Dinner  Video

Did you know that there are over 712 homeless men, women and children in the Coeur d'Alene area? CBC's Community Dinner Outreach has been serving our community for over two years, providing a homecooked meal each Sunday evening from 4:30-5:30 PM at the Harding Center located at 411 N. 15th St. This ministry not only feeds people physically, but also spiritually. As relationships are built, the opportunity arises to share the gospel. Clothing and blankets are also distributed to those who attend. Currently over 100 families are divided into 5 teams that serve one Sunday a month. There is still a need for others to get involved. If you are interested in participating in this ministry and sharing the love of Jesus with those around us, contact Mark Ridgewell at 964-6774.

CHS Outreach Video

The first Wednesday through Friday of each month during the school year, we invite the students of Coeur d'Alene High School to come over for lunch. On Wednesday, we serve pizza, cookies and soda and take time to develop a relationship with the students. Students can respond in writing to a spiritual question, that is further discussed on Thursday. The next day hundreds of students return for corndogs and we take time to talk to the students about spiritual things, using the question previously asked as a gauge for where they are spiritually. On Friday, all who are interested are invited to bring a sack lunch and join us to hear what the Bible has to say. It has been amazing to see God work in and through us in the lives of these young people. If you would like to get involved in the monthly CHS Outreach, contact the church office at 664-4883 for more details.

Young Life of North Idaho brings the good news of Jesus Christ into the lives of adolescents with an approach that is respectful of who kids are and hopeful about who they can be. It is Young Life's desire that every adolescent will have the opportunity to meet Christ and follow Him. This is accomplished through going where kids are, building relationships with them, providing experiences that are fun, adventurous and life-changing, nurturing kids so they might grow in their love for Christ and the knowledge of God's Word and become people who can share their faith with others, encouraging kids to live connected to the Body of Christ and be active members of their local congregation and loving them regardless of their response. The goal of the Christian Community Coalition is to organize a coalition of Christian church organizations into a strong, active social force in our community. Offering the local fellowship the opportunity to be more than what it can be individually by providing opportunities for publication, awareness, training workshops, community service, fellowship and networking and expanding partnerships, this organization reaches across denominational and organizational lines to provide creative solutions to community challenges. The coalition facilitates strategies for community outreach ministries bridging the gap between the faith community and social services through training and sharing of resources.
